Teaching my children about green energy
It has become increasingly apparent in recent months that teaching my children about green energy has become paramount to their and their children's survival on Earth. Global warming, rising fossil fuel prices and excessive waste are dooming our health and the health of our planet. We need to expand our renewable energy resources now to prevent crisis in the future.
Green energy is a term used by environmentalists to describe sources of renewable energy that are non-polluting. Geothermal power comes from geysers and hot springs. Wind turbines are used to extract the kinetic energy of the wind. Wind power is the least expensive of the renewable energy sources. Hydropower comes from energy obtained from flowing water, usually captured by dams. Solar energy is the cleanest of the renewable energy sources, and is thought by many to be the future savior of the world.
The children of today are the adults of tomorrow. They will be in charge of running the country in which they live, work and play. Educating them now about the need for green energy development and of using the resources we have wisely and efficiently will ensure the longevity of our population and the planet we live on. Knowledge truly is power and it is up to our children to keep cleaning up the mess that their predecessors created. It is up to us as parents to help them see the need for these steps and help children toward decisions that will benefit us all.
